The type species (lectotype) of the genus Acrochaetium is Acrochaetium secundatum (Lyngbye) Nägeli.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Colaconema robustum (Børgesen) Huisman & Woelkerling.

Taxonomic note
John et al. (2004) note that Stegenga (pers. comm.) has suggested that this species may be referable to the genus Colaconema. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
Distributional note
This species has been introduced into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 101) being first found at Siani (Mediterranean Egypt) in 1944, which it may have reached via the Suez Canal. - (04 November 2015) - M.D. Guiry
