Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phycodrys rubens (Linnaeus) Batters

Origin of species name
Participle (Latin), reddish (Stearn 1973).
