Adjective (Latin), compact (Stearn 1973).

Chamberlain in Irvine & Chamberlain (1994: 224) has examined the specimen (BM) upon which the Clew Bay, Ireland record is based (Lemoine, 1913: 125; Newton, 1931: 312) and reidentified it as Phymatolithon lamii.
This is a marine species.
Type locality: Karmakul Bay, Novaya Zemlya (Yoshida 1998: 551). Lectotype: Kjellman; 26.vi.1875; no habitat data on type. TRH C20-3470 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 485). Notes: fide Woelkerling 1988: 161.
