The type species (holotype) of the genus Aliterella is Aliterella atlantica Rigonato, W.A.Gama, D.O.Alvarenga, Branco, Brandini, Genuário & M.F.Fiore.

Type locality: Chile, Atacama desert; Pan de Azúcar National Park (26°06'39.62"S, 70°32'54.51"W) ; (Jung & al. 2020: 1223) Holotype: P. Jung; July 23, 2017; chasmolithic in boulders of granite, elev. 409 m; HBG; 024669 (Jung & al. 2020: 1223) Notes: GenBank accession number MN243145. The reference strain is available via the culture collection DSMZ Braunschweig (DSM 109265) and the culture collection SAG of Göttingen, Germany (temporary strain number SAG NA2019.003).
