According to Liu et al. (2020: 1436), biodiversity assessments based on culture isolation and environmental DNA survey indicate that this species is widely distributed in the acidic geothermal areas in Iceland and West Pacific Islands (including Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines; Toplin et al. 2008, Ciniglia et al. 2014, Hsieh et al. 2015, 2018). - (15 March 2021) - G.M.
