"Epitype (designated here): The authentic strain UTEX 1445 cryopreserved in metabolically inactive state at the Culture Collection of Algae at the University of Texas, Austin, Texas, USA." Deposited by R.A. Lewin (3/65), suggesting it may have originated in California.
