Taxonomic note
Section Corillionia R.E. Romanov in Romanov et al., 2021: [12]. - (19 January 2022) - G.M. Guiry

Distributional note
"South-Western Europe: rice fields in the Natural Park Albufera de Valencia, Spain (own data), and Mediterranean France (as C. cf. chrysospora; Mouronvaletal., 2015). The total number of its localities in the world does not exceed three, but this species should be expected at rice fields and perhaps in other temporary water bodies in other Mediterranean regions. Targeted searches in rice fields, distant from each other, in the south of European Russia, i.e. outside of Mediterranean, during summer 2021 were unsuccessful (own data)." (Romanov 2024). - (14 January 2025) - M.D. Guiry

Conservational note
"Chara oryzae has been assessed as VU (Vulnerable) in the European Red List (see Chap. 9). Although it is known only from a few European rice fields and is assumed to be a non-native species in this region, it is not known elsewhere in the world and has been given a status until its native origins are discovered." (Romanov 2024). - (14 January 2025) - M.D. Guiry
