Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Pterocladia is Pterocladia lucida (R.Brown ex Turner) J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pterocladiella nana (Okamura) Shimada, Horiguchi & Masuda.

Taxonomic note
