The type species (holotype) of the genus Chylocladia is Chylocladia kaliformis (Goodenough & Woodward) Hooker.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lomentaria clavellosa (Lightfoot ex Turner) Gaillon

Syntype localities: Habitat apud Bancaster in Norfolcia: inter rejectaments maris apud Yarmouth frequens [Bancaster and Yarmouth, Norfolk, England] (Turner 1802: 133).
