The type species (lectotype) of the genus Galaxaura is Galaxaura rugosa (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ganonema farinosum (J.V.Lamouroux) K.-C.Fan & Yung C.Wang.

Lectotype locality: Fremantle, Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 120) Lectotype: G. Clifton; TCD; (Huisman 2006: 43) Notes: This type locality was first described by Levring, 1953: 504 (Silva et al., 1996). Lectotype: TCD, fide T. Levring (Huisman 2006).
