This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gracilaria megaspora (E.Y.Dawson) Papenfuss
Type locality: Bahía San Carlos, near Ensenada San Francisco, Sonora, Mexico (Silva & al. 1996: 181). Holotype: Dawson ,1880; May 17, 1946; Floating in a shallow, sandy lagoon. Herb. a. Hannock foundation 4521 (Dawson 1961: 217). Notes: Distribution is only known from the type material (Silva et al. 1996).
