Habitat note
"Chara affinis occurs in small quarries excavated in serpentinite (a base-rich igneous rock). These vary in size from small pits a few metres across (quarried for ornamental stone for carving) to a large stone quarry. The species has also previously occurred in small streams, most likely where there were static areas out of the main flow. In Guernsey it occurred in some ditches and a shallow pool. In France it occurs in a former stone quarry (Mireval), a brackish water marsh, and a brackish pond. In Belgium, it has been recorded from an artificial lake and a ditch."
