Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Peyssonnelia is Peyssonnelia squamaria (S.G.Gmelin) Decaisne ex J.Agardh.

General environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Essentially a deep water species, known from shaded pools to 48 m deep (Womersley 1994: 158).

Type information
Type locality: "Nova Hollandia" (probably Western Australia) (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 212). Type: Herb. Binder, HBG (Womersley 1994: 158). Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Millar (1990: 332) (Silva et al., 1996)
