This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Sargassum glaucescens J.Agardh
Type locality: "China Sea (?)", (Macau) (Silva & al. 1996: 674). Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Tseng & Lu (1988: 35) for more information on the type locality of this species.

Adjective (Latin), furnished, equipped, embellished, adorned (Stearn 1973).
