The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Sargassum linearifolium (Turner) C.Agardh.

Type locality: "western coast of New Holland", (probably King George Sound, Western Australia); (Silva & al. 1996: 684) Type: Menzies; BM (ex K); (Womersley 1987: 441) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Womersley (1987: 441) for more information on the type locality of this species.

Adjective (Latin), with narrow leaves.
