This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Sargassum linearifolium (Turner) C.Agardh
Lectotype locality: Adelaide, South Australia (Silva & al. 1996: 684). Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Womersley (1987: 441) for more information on the lectotype locality of this species.
