Type locality: "The Canyons", Heron Island, Australia (Coppejans & al. 2001: 424). Holotype: G.T. Kraft, C.O'Brien & R.W. Ricker; 18 Mar. 1985; abundant on encrusting Corallinaceae in pockets and crevices in the vertical reef face, . MELU GBR-16136 (Kraft 2007: 246).
