Lectotype: collector not indicated on TRH collection but given as Farlow on PC isolectotype; May 1885; TRH A3-138, includes slide 479; designated by Mason, 1953: 431 (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 39-40). Notes: Isolectotypes: PC, unnumbered, Thuret-Bornet Herbarium (box collection, filed under Goniolithon farlowii); UC 341301. Possible LT locality, Monterey, fide Smith 1951; type locality: USA: California (Pacific Grove, Monterey Co.) and Alaska (Baranoff I.) (INA).
