This is a marine species.
Type locality: near Wellington, Island Bay, North Island, New Zealand (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 342). Lectotype: W.A. Setchell No. 6354; June 1904; uppermost sublittoral zone, on Corallina and Amphiroa. TRH B17-2551 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 342). Notes: Designated by Woelkerling & Harvey (1992: 382). Not "Bay of Islands" as in some publications.
