Type locality: Half Moon Bay, Port Phillip Bay, Victoria (Wilks & Woelkerling 1994: 191). Lectotype: J. Gabriel; 14 January 1899; no habitat data on type. TRH C18-3354 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 471). Notes: Designated by Adey in Adey & Lebednik (1967: 83).

This is a marine species.
Occurs intertidally on rocky reefs and in tide pools and subtidally to depths of 6 m; on small loose-lying stones, large rocks, reef tops and on a glass bottle (Wilks & Woelkeling 1994: 192).
