Type locality: Port Natal, Durban, South Africa; (Silva & al. 1996: 266) Lectotype: Guienzius; no date; epiphytic on Gelidium; TCD; (Woelkerling & Campbell 1992: 98, fig. 63A) Notes: Designated by Woelkerling & Campbell (1992: 98). Isotype: BM. Epiphytic on Gelidium pteridifolium Norris, Hommersand & Fredericq; Isolectotypes: TCD, BM (Chamberlain & Norris 1994: 10).

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Abundant intertidally in rock pools, epiphytic on leaves and stems of the seagrass Thalassodendron ciliatum, also epiphytic on a number of intertidal algae, including Gelidium pteridifolium, Chamaedoris delphinii and Halimeda sp. (Chamberlain & Norris 1994: 10).
