Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Turnerella pennyi (Harvey) F.Schmitz

Type locality: Hab. ad Spetsbergen (Green Harbour, Liefde baj), una cum Delesseria sinuosa & Phyllophora interrupta a profundiori (5-10 orgyar.) protracta. (Agardh 1868: 45).
