Type locality: Still Bay, Cape Province, South Africa (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 275). Holotype: T.A. Stephenson; 15.i.1932; PC T.A. Stephenson no. 30, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed in non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym) (Woelkerling 1998: 288).
No synonyms are currently included in AlgaeBase.
Titanoderma Nägeli has been reduced to synonymy with Lithophyllum Philippi but all combinations have not yet been published. It is therefore likely that this species will be referred to Lithophyllum at some time in the future (Guiry & NicDhonncha, pers. comm.)
