The type species (holotype) of the genus Liebmannia is Liebmannia leveillei J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Suringariella harveyana (J.Agardh) Womersley & Bailey.

Type locality: "Hab. ad oras Tasmaniae (Harvey!)" [Georgetown, Tasmania]; (Agardh 1882: 52) Holotype: Harvey; LD; herb. alg. Agardh 46522 (Womersley 1987: 112) Notes: Harvey, Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 89. Womersley (1987) notes that there are isotypes in MEL (8629) and NSW.

Eponomy
Named for William Henry Harvey (1811-1866), Irish Botanist, collector and traveller.
