The type species (holotype) of the genus Dilophus is Dilophus gunnianus J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyota fastigiata Sonder.

Type locality: Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia; (De Clerck 2003: 180) Lectotype: LD; 49568 (De Clerck 2003: 180) Notes: De Clerck (2003) notes that lectotypification was established by Womersley (1967; 213). Womersley (1987: 208) notes that the type was collected by Mueller.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), darkened, dull, not shining, opaque (Stearn 1983).
