Habitat note
"Epilithic, high upper eulittoral, exposed on cliff faces, associated with, and sometimes emerging through, gelatinous colonies of Chrysophyceae, and frequently mixed with the fleece-like growths of the green alga Chaetomorpha tortuosa; this is the highest shore height recorded for brown algae and is probably only reached by the highest spring tides and/or seawater spray. Rarely recorded and only collected in Britain by the present author from the chalk cliff faces and cuttings of the Kent (Thanet) coast, and from the sandstone cliff faces of St Andrews, Scotland; likely to be more widespread."
