Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Callophyllis rangiferina (R.Brown ex Turner) Womersley.

Nomenclatural note
Womersley & Norris (1971: 37) note that Callophyllis coccinea (Harvey in Hooker & Harvey) Kuetzing was first described as Sphaerococcus australis by Harvey 1844. In 1847, he transferred it to Rhodymenia as R. coccinea ( R. australis Sonder already in existence). Referral of Harvey's epithet Shaerococcus australis to Callophyllis is prevented by the existence of Callophyllis australis Sonder and C. australis J. Agardh. - (19 June 2009) - G.M. Guiry
