Nomenclatural note
"This species was described by Kützing (1842: 735) from Split (Croatia) and Trieste (Italy); later it was illustrated by Kützing (1862: 24, pl. 78/a-c) in his Tabulae Phycologicae. Hauck (1882: 104) listed it among the synonyms of C. tenuissimum (= C. diaphanum), while Ardissone (1883: 103) and De Toni (1903: 1484) listed it among the synonyms of C. strictum Greville et Harvey [nomen nudum]."
