This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pneophyllum zonale (P.Crouan & H.Crouan) Y.M.Chamberlain.

Taxonomic note
Chamberalin (in Irvine & Chamberlain, 1994: 132) examined the type of Hapalidium zonale P.L. Crouan & H.M. Crouan (1859) and could not find the pore filaments diagnostic of Pneophyllum caulerpae. They removed it from synonymy with the latter entity. Further studies are required. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
