Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Corallina is Corallina officinalis Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Metagoniolithon stelliferum (Lamarck) Ducker.

Nomenclatural note
Decaisne (1842b, p.124) misspelt the specific epithet as stelligera but it was based on Corallina stellifera Lamarck. Since this time, this error has been perpetuated until Ducker (1974, p. A 37). - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
