Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chamberlainium natalense (Foslie) Puckree-Padua, P.W.Gabrielson & Maneveldt

Type locality: "Weber-van Bosse; Sydafrika [= South Africa]; Natal (or Port Nolloth); [no habitat data]; 1894" (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 35). Lectotype: A2-107 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 35). Notes: Type locality: South Africa: Natal; collector: Weber-van Bosse (INA). Lectotype: TRH (A2-107), designated by Adey in Adey & Lebednik (1967: 16); type locality: likely KwaZulu-Natal (as Natal), South Africa (see Puckree-Padua et al., 2020: 478).
