Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Bossea is Bossea plumosa Manza.

Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Bossiella californica (Decaisne) P.C.Silva

Type information
Type locality: South Bay, Isla Cerros, Baja California, Mexico (Taylor 1945: 194-195). Holotype: W.R. Taylor no. 34-643B; 10 March 1934; On littoral rocks in pools. Hancock Foundation (Taylor 1945: 194-195). Notes: According to Dawson (1953: 152), Taylor 34-643B was on sheet 98 in the Alan Hancock Foundation Herbarium (now at LAM), and included slides 1417 and box 7012.
