Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Bossea is Bossea plumosa Manza.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Bossiella californica (Decaisne) P.C.Silva.

Source of Synonymy
Johansen, H.W. (1972 '1971'). Bossiella, a genus of articulated corallines (Rhodophyceae, Cryptonemiales) in the eastern pacific. Phycologia 10: 381-396.
