Type locality: Tortuga Island, Gulf of California (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 781). Type: Ivan M. Johnston (no.121); June; Found on rocks in the upper sublittoral belt. Herb. Calif. Acad. Sci. 1369 (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 781).
