Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Sargassum is Sargassum bacciferum (Turner) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phyllotricha decipiens (R.Brown ex Turner) R.R.M.Dixon & Huisman.
