The type species (holotype) of the genus Dictyosphaerium is Dictyosphaerium ehrenbergianum Nägeli.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hindakia tetrachotoma (Printz) C.Bock, Pröschold & Krienitz.

Type locality: S. Norway; (Index Nominum Algarum) Holotype: Fig. 5 in pl. I in Printz 1914: (Bock et al. 2010: 270) Notes: Epitype: Material from the epitype strain CCAP 222/80 was cryopreserved at the Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa, Oban, Scotland.
