This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Gelidiopsis.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ceratodictyon variabile (J.Agardh) R.E.Norris
Type locality: Madras, India (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 362). Type: Wight; Herb. Agardh, LD (Silva 1996-to date Notes: This type locality was first recorded through a personal comment from I. Price. Dawson (1953: 86): Holotype is a specimen collected by Wight, probably in the Hooker Herbarium at Kew, England. According to Feldmann, 1931, an isotype is in the Agardh Herbarium, Lund, Sweden. Data from INA and Silva et al. (1996) refer to Gelidium variabile J. Agardh.
