Syntype localities: Virgin Islands: Christianssted's Lagoon, St. Croix; Bovoni Lagoon, St. Thomas; Coral Bay, St. Jan (Index Nominum Algarum).
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), fastigiate, with branches clustered, parallel and erect, giving a narrow elongated habit (occasionally meaning branched reaching to the same height) (Stearn 1973).
