Type locality: Bahia San Francisquito, Gulf of California, Mexico; (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 772) Holotype: Ivan M. Johnston (no. 27a); July, 1921; Growing on Gelidium; UC; CAS(1364) in UC(1918257) (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 772) Notes: Original published data incorrect. The holotype is CAS1364 and is from Bahia San Francisquito, not Isla Partida.
Origin of Species Name
Participle B (Latin), procumbent, lying along the ground (Stearn 1983).
