Nomenclatural notes
Illegitimate: unwarranted change of epithet. Gmelin gives a description and refers to "O.F. Müller Kl. Schr. 1: 1, figs. 1-8". [1782: according to INA], which is Vibrio paxillifer O.F. Müller. According to Hustedt (1930: 396) this species is a currently accepted name. Day et al. (1995: 3) concur with this view; however, the name is illegitimate and cannot be used; see also Jahn & Schmid (2007: 295 et seq.). - (13 Jun 2009) - M.D. Guiry

General environment
This is a marine species.
