Nomenclatural note
Prorocentrum compressum (J.W.Bailey) Abé ex J.D.Dodge, included as a dinoflagellate by Stein (1883, as Dinopyxis compressa), Abé (1967), Dodge (1976, 1982, 1985) and others is a nomenclatural synonym of Tryblionella compressa (J.W.Bailey) Poulin, now accepted as being a diatom. The correct name for the taxon descibed by Dodge (1982) appears to be Prorocentrum bidens J.Schiller. However, the name as a combination applies to a diatom. - (11 January 2020) - M.D. Guiry
