Taxonomic notes
Tibiella braseiliensis (Grunow) Patrick 1939 ? - (11 December 2015) - G.M. Guiry
"The problem with Grunow's taxon is the selection of a lectotype since the specimens from Brazil appear to be heterogeneous concerning the shape of the headpole. The two icons in Van Heurck (1881 figs 35: 19 left side and 19 right side) are not only different in size but differ also in the position of their apical points. This might be due to a variation of shape during the cell cycle development. However, if the position of the apical point is regarded as consistent character then the two depicted specimens should belong to different populations (taxa)." (Metzeltin & Lange-Bertalot 2007: 26). - (15 August 2023) - M.D. Guiry
