Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Spyridia is Spyridia filamentosa (Wulfen) Harvey.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Spyridia horridula F.Schmitz ex J.Agardh.

Origin of Species Name
Participle B (Latin), alternating (Stearn 1992).
