Type locality: Little Miami River, Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A. (Weber 1970: 149). Holotype: 18 May-14 December 1966; In freshwater plankton; a shallow alkaline stream enriched by domestic wastes and agricultural runoff. Herbarium, Smithsonian Institution (USA) Slide labeled "Holotypus, Microsiphona potamos, Weber (Weber 1970: 152, 151, 150, 149).
