Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Navicula is Navicula tripunctata (O.F.Müller) Bory.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Psammothidium ventrale (Krasske) Bukhtiyarova & Round.

Bukhtiyarova, L. & Round, F.E. (1996). Revision of the genus Achnanthes sensu lato. Psammothidium a new genus based on A. marginulatum. Diatom Research 11(1): 1-30.
