Noun (Latin), A small tree; little tree (Stearn 1983).

This is a marine species.

Habitat
Growing near to low tide level on somewhat sheltered coasts (Womersley 2003: 468).

Taxonomic note
According to Fujii et al. (2006: 439), the rbcL sequences from L. scoparia, L. arbuscula and L. filiformis suggest that these taxa encompass a single morphologically diverse species in Brazil. - (14 September 2006) - G.M. Guiry
