Growing near to low tide level on somewhat sheltered coasts (Womersley 2003: 468).

Type locality: Western Australia (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 503). Holotype: Preiss; MEL 1006897 (Womersley 2003: 466). Notes: Type from Western Australia, probably near Fremantle (Womersley, 2003: 466).
