The type species (holotype) of the genus Balbiania is Balbiania investiens (Lenormand ex Kützing) Sirodot.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ottia meiospora (Skuja) Entwisle, J.R.Evans, M.L.Vis & G.W.Saunders.

Description
Entwisle et al. (2018: 83) note that their interpretation of the taxon is based largely on the protologue (Skuja 1944) and particularly the illustrations within (tab. I, figs 1-11).
