Nomenclatural notes
Seemingly originally first introduced without a description, but validated by analytical figures (see ICN Art. 38.7 "For the purpose of Art. 38.5, prior to 1 January 1908, an illustration with analysis (see Art. 38.9 and 38.10) is acceptable in place of a written description or diagnosis."). - (19 May 2016) - M.D. Guiry
This name was also introduced in the same work (pl. 57, fig. 18, pl. 59, fig. 6) citing Nitzschia vitrea var. salinarum Grunow 1880. Typification is necessary to establish identity of both names. A selection of one or other name is also necessary to establish priority as both have equal priority. - (19 May 2016) - M.D. Guiry
