Nomenclatural note
The generic name Vibrio is masculine. The epithet paxillifer may be either a noun, meaning "peg-bearer" or an adjective meaning "peg-bearing". In the original description it is not clear whether it is intended to be a noun or an adjective, because the entire name is written in upper-case letters, but the index clearly shows that it is meant to be an adjective (Christensen 1991). - (11 January 2011) - M.D. Guiry
